How Is Your Walk, Church?

This past Sunday, we were challenged by Pastor Nick Lincoln to walk as children of the light. That phrase sounds simple, but it carries deep spiritual weight.

Scripture tells us plainly in Ephesians 5:8, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

Whether we realize it or not, God often leads His people into places of darkness not to be consumed by it, but so that His light may shine through us. Jesus Himself said in

Matthew 5:14–16, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;  nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

You encounter these moments daily. The people next to you who are far from God. The questionable decisions being made at your workplace. The conversations you overhear while going about your routine.

In those moments, is your light shining clearly or has it begun to flicker?

The Bible reminds us that light always invades darkness. John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

When light enters dark places, it creates gospel pressure. That pressure is good. It can produce persecution, but more often it opens doors for conversations about Jesus. It creates opportunities to pray for those in need. It moves us to serve others the way Christ served us.

1 John 3:18 states, “Let us not love in word or tongue (talk) but in deed and in truth.”

If you find yourself flickering today, don’t stay there. Scripture encourages us:

2 Timothy 1:6 – “For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh (fan) the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”

Don’t settle for spiritual complacency. Don’t accept the status quo. Ask God to rekindle the fire within you. Let the flame of the King of kings burn brightly in your heart once again.

This is what we are called to do. To walk as children of the light. To shine boldly in the darkness around us.
